למידה נשארת למידה

נושא המחקר של mollybob הוא סביבות למידה אישיות, ולכן באופן טבעי היא מתמקדת בכלים התקשוביים שמרכיבים את הסביבות האלו. אבל היא מדגישה שהדגש שלה הוא על "למידה" ולא כל כלי זה או אחר. המיקוד הזה יוצר מתח בינה לבין המנחה שלה כאשר המנחה המליץ שהיא תתמקד ב-PLE בלמידה מקוונת, ולא להתייחס ל-PLE כמרכיב בלמידה פנים אל פנים. הרעיון לא נראה לה נכון:

I don’t think that the study of personal learning networks can be restricted to the online medium because that’s not how humans work. My work around PLEs is focussed on learning, and learning doesn’t assert that it lives either online or offline, it doesn’t have technological boundaries. Were I to restrict my study of PLE’s to the online environment, I believe I’d be studying the Personal Web, a concept I am gradually coming to believe is flawed in its outlook (although I haven’t studied it in great deal so that may be a big call at the moment). If we restrict our study of PLEs to the online environment, aren’t we focussing on technology, not learning?

היא צודקת. הכלים המקושבים שמסייעים ללמידה שלנו אינם תקפים ללמידה מקוונת בלבד, אלא מתאימים לכל מצב שבו אנחנו לומדים, ותהיה זאת טעות להבדיל בין למידה מקוונת לבין למידה פנים אל פנים, כאילו שמדובר בשני סוגי למידה שהם שונים זה מזה.

וונדי דרקסלר עובדת עם כיתה של תלמידים בכיתה ז' וחוקרת את הלמידה שלהם לדוקטורט שלה. היא כותבת על רשימה ארוכה של בעיות טכניות (ולא רק טכניות) שבהן התלמידים נתקלים. ובכל זאת, הם כנראה מתגברים:

You would think from this list that every day was a new disaster. However, neither I nor the participating teacher see it that way. In fact, every day is a new science experiment, a new adventure, a new learning opportunity. The students are all engaged in their own unique ways… for the entire hour and 40 minute block. On the one hand, they've had to learn a whole new way of work riddled with frustrations and unknowns. On the other hand, they've embraced it with a vengeance. Construction of Personal Learning Environments is Messy

המטרה הספציפית של דרקסלר היא בניית "סביבות למידה אישיות" עם התלמידים, אבל מה שהיא מתארת הוא משהו בסיסי ומשמעותי הרבה מעבר לכך. אפילו אם זה נאמר פעמים רבות בעבר, כנראה שכאשר תלמידים מתעניינים במתרחש, קשה לעצור אותם מללמוד.

אין שיטתיות בלמידה (אישית)

סטיבן דאונס מגיב לפוסט של הרולד ג'ארש בו הוא מתאר מספר דוגמאות של ניהול ידע אישי (Personal Knowledge Management). דאונס מציין שהוא איננו מוצא מהו לא בסדר בדוגמאות, אבל הוא איננו יכול לצייר (או לתאר) את תהליך ניהול הידע של עצמו, וזה משום שהתהליך משתנה מיום ליום.

For me, honestly, I probably couldn't draw a picture. It's different every day, it's random and chaotic, I follow where my inclinations lead me, write when the mood strikes me, don't do what I'm told, trust my experiences and distrust theory (even my own).

קל לי להזדהות איתו. לעתים קרובות מדי מנסים להראות לנו שיש כלים שבאמצעותם אפשר לארגן את הלמידה שלנו, אבל כל פעם שעושים זאת אני מתרשם שהדגש הוא על כלי זה או אחר, ולא על הלמידה, שבאופן בלתי-נמנע מבולגן ולא עקבי. אני לומד … ותמיד מגלה שאני לומד בדרכים שונות ובאמצעות כלים שונים. מספיק.

אז יש סביבה, אבל איפה הלמידה?

ג'ון פאליסטר מספר סיפור אישי על ביקור אצל רופא עיניים, ועל הטיול שלו ברחוב שבא אחריו. המראות ברחוב מביאות אותו להרהר על סביבות למידה אישיות:

I was trying hard to ignore the distractions, I was reflecting, not just on my sins, but on the conference that I had attended, in 1990, in that hotel, that I had just walked past. I was organising my learning, sorting things out in my head. The debate about Personal Learning environments drifted in to my head. I had followed numerous discussions that were attempting to define PLEs. I had begun to wonder if we were over cooking the PLE bit. … I decided that, really, it was what the learner ‘does’ in their Personal Learning Environment that determines what they will learn and that this is more important than the environment itself.

A Personal Learning Environment, about to be born?

אין ספק שהוא צודק. פעם אחר פעם אנחנו קוראים מאמרונים שבהם הכותבים מתלהבים מה-PLEs שלהם, ומשום מה, מעבר להתלהבות איננו רואים עדות לכך שמשהו באמת נלמד.
