תופעה מוכרת בתקופתנו

רעיונות אינם צומחים באוויר, אבל בימינו, כאשר ערוצי הדיון והתקשורת רבים כל כך, ומספר ההיגדים שאנחנו פוגשים מתרבה מיום ליום, ספק אם בכלל יש אפשרות שרעיון שצץ בראש שלנו הוא אכן "מקורי". שלי גיב (mollybob) מוסדרת בהודעת Twitter שרק אחרי שהיא הגישה עבודה שהיא כתבה היא שמה לב שבעצם רעיון מסויים שאליו היא התייחסה היה צריך לזכור למתן קרדיט למישהו.

סביר להניח שזה קורה לכולנו. אפילו בתי משפט דנו במקרים של מוסיקאים שלא בדיוק העתיקו, אלא הושפעו, ללא כוונה, ואולי אפילו ללא ידיעה, מיצירות מוסיקאליות אחרות. לפעמים אנחנו אפילו קוראים ציטטה מלפני 200 שנה ואנחנו עוצרים ואומרים לעצמנו – "רגע! חשבתי שאני הגיתי את הרעיון הזה!". ככה זה היום.

I've actually caught more cases of plagiarism since going paperless. Every now and then, I take classtime with my students to run Google checks on anonymous blogged essays their peers have turned in. Inevitably, we find copied work. Rather than bust students and deal with it in the standard disciplinary way in the event we do discover fault, I use it as a means to show them how easy it is to discover plagiarism in the digital world. The kids learn quick and I've never had to do this more than once with any class to completely discourage digital copying. It's actually quite a bit more difficult to do that with just paper.

כמובן שעדיין לא קראתי את הספר, אבל אני מתרשם שהחוקרת, סוזן בלום, מצליחה להביט על הנושא מזווית אחרת מרוב אנשי האקדמיה, וזה בוודאי מה שמביא אותה לחפש פתרונות שונים מאשר ענישה.

מה שמוזר כאן היא העובדה שאין כאן שום דבר חדש. לפני שנים היו תביעות כאלה, וקשה להאמין שהנושא עולה שוב. מתברר שהצדדים כבר הגיעו להסכם שמתיר קישורים, ובכל זאת (בדרך לא ברורה לי) שומרת על הבלעדיות של המפרסם המקורי. עוד אלמנט חשוב, שאולי שונה היום ממקרים מהעבר, הוא שהפעם העיתון הקטן חש צורך לשמור על עצמו מפני העיתון הגדול. במידה לא קטנה, מדובר בהשרדות.
