פירוק החבילה?


בעקבות מאמר ב-Chronicle, ג'ורג' סימנס מהרהר על עתיד ההשכלה הגבוהה. בדומה לטענה של קליי שירקי שעלינו להבחין בין עיתון לבין עיתונאות (ושצריכים למצוא את הדרך לקיים עיתונאות ללא העיתון הפיסי), סימנס מתייחס למרכיבים השונים של ההשכלה הגבוהה ושואל אם יש חובה שאלה יהיו מרוכזים במוסד אחד.

I’m interested in the new value point for higher education. The system currently serves three dominant roles: content/research, teaching/learning, and accreditation. Why don’t we split them up? We could serve each function better in this model. And less expensively. A large system that tries to do too much is incapable of adapting rapidly to changing external conditions.

אישית, קשה לי לדמיין מוסד שיעסוק בלמידה לשם הלמידה בלי קשר הדוק להסמכה, אבל הייתי מקבל הפרדה כזאת בברכה.

אני מניח שנושא ההעתקה וההדבקה בחינוך לעולם לא יירד מהפרק. בעקבות כתבה בניו יורק טיימס בנושא רשתות חברתיות שבהן סטודנטים מעבירים (בין היתר) תשובות לתרגילים ולמבחנים, טים סטאמר שואל כיצד זמינות המידע צריכה להשפיע על החינוך:

Wolfram Alpha, while certainly not yet the tech miracle/”Google killer” being hailed by some in the media, is a good indication of where this is all heading: enter a query and get a detailed response within seconds.
 
So, why do we continue to ask questions of students that can be found with little or no effort?
 
Education in an age of ubiquitous connectivity should be more about using and creating knowledge rather than memorizing little bits of easily obtained data (and placing them in the right boxes on the test).
