בעקבות "שבוע הספר האסור" אירה סוקול מדגיש שיש אמנם מודעות לצורך לא לאסור על קריאת ספרים, אבל בבתי הספר רבים הגישה למידע רב דרך האינטרנט עדיין מוגבל, ואפילו אסור. הוא כותב על שיחה שהתנהלה בינו לבין ידיד:

סוקול מציין ששריפת ספרים היא סוג של צנזורה, נסיון להשתלט על מה שאחרים יכולים לדעת, והדבר (כמובן) פסול בעיניו.

We should not burn, nor should we filter.
